Five (5) Causes of Childhood Obesity

Overweight children are at high risk of becoming overweight adolescents and adults, placing them at risk of increasing chronic diseases like heart disease and diabetes in the future. They are liable to develop stress, sadness, and low self-esteem. Major causes of childhood obesity are as follows:

Diet: Constant eating of high-calorie foods, such as fast foods, baked foods and vending machine snacks, can easily cause a child to gain weight.

Lack of Physical Activities: Most children spent more time in sedentary activities, like watching television or playing video games which also contributes to the problem. Children who don't exercise are more prone to gaining unnecessary weight because they don't burn as many calories.
Family Factors: If a child comes from a family of overweight people, he or she may be more likely to put on weight. This is especially true in an environment where high-calorie foods are always available and physical activity isn't encouraged.

Psychological factors: Parental and family worries can increase a child's risk of obesity. Some children overeat to cope with problems or to deal with emotions, such as stress, or to fight boredom.

Socioeconomic Factors: Child from a low-income background family is prone to eat unhealthy diet. People in some communities have limited resources and limited access to supermarkets. As a result, they may opt for convenience foods that don't spoil quickly, such as frozen meals, crackers and cookies.

Gestational Diabetes: Symptoms, Causes and Treatment

Introduction Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that develops only during pregnancy. Diabetes means your blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high. Gestational diabetes also known as gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a situation in which a woman without diabetes develops high blood sugar levels during pregnancy. When you eat, your digestive system breaks down most of the food into a sugar called glucose. Glucose enters your bloodstream so your cells can use it as fuel. With the help of insulin (a hormone made by your pancreas), muscle, fat, and other cells absorb glucose from your blood. But if your body doesn't produce enough insulin, or if the cells have a problem responding to it, too much glucose remains in your blood instead of moving into cells and getting converted to energy.
